Living with a local host family allows you to immerse yourself in British culture. These hosts have been carefully selected by EF Academy based on their experience hosting international students and for their kind and welcoming attitude.
In a host family arrangement, students will observe and take part in customs that may be different from those they are used to at home, enhancing their global perspective and introducing them to new traditions, foods and local culture. Students will thrive in a supportive and comfortable environment with a family routine.
Students are provided with all the same necessities as they would in a residence and all of their meals are served by the host family, except the weekday lunches that are served at school.
At Cotuit Hall, students aged 16 to 19 can live in twin, triple or quadruple rooms. The residence is a three-minute walk from the school and hosts male and female students in separate dormitories. Students have access to a student lounge, quiet study areas, and mini shared kitchens that are equipped with cupboard space, microwaves, kettles and refrigerators. These kitchenettes give students the option of preparing snacks outside of regular meal times. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the cafeteria, which is just a short walk away. Wi-Fi is available, free of charge, throughout the residence as well as on campus.
EF Academy Oxford encourages students to use English as their primary form of communication - this is why they are paired with roommates from different countries. Bedrooms are equipped with desks for each occupant so students can also study in their rooms. Students are welcome to decorate their living spaces with flags, pictures or posters that reflect their interests and styles and remind them of their home countries. Cotuit Hall’s student lounge is a great place for students to relax a snooker table, tennis table and football table are available for entertainment during study breaks.
An accommodations manager and live-in house parents oversee the well-being, whereabouts, and safety of the students. They ensure the highest standard of nurturing, social education and parenting.
Our students benefit from a world-class, international teaching faculty, an innovative global curriculum, personalized academic counseling, and round-the-clock pastoral care. Students also enjoy a rich, multicultural learning environment and the widest possible range of extracurricular activities and clubs. They become valued members of the surrounding community. And when lessons are over for the day, they have easy access to all the leisure and social amenities of a vibrant university city.
We work hard to give our students the best learning and studying conditions to make sure that our students can perform at their best ability academically. Our teachers are highly educated from various universities, such as Warwick and Oxford University, and several of them have earned Masters and PhDs. Furthermore, our teachers have experience of working abroad with international students with different nationalities and they enjoy exploring foreign cultures as much as the students do.
To provide further support for our students’ academic journey, we have all our classes in our updated multimedia classrooms, our modern language laboratories and our interactive science laboratory. All these classrooms are equipped with modern teaching tools to provide the students with the best teaching methods.
Alongside these great educational facilities, we also have other great on-site places for our students to use at any time. With several student lounges, a big cafeteria, a library and a courtyard atrium, our students have a lot of places to choose from when they want to relax, study, spend time with their friends or have a snack.
We pride ourselves on offering our students a unique diversity of clubs and extracurricular activities, to help them become well-rounded students and individuals. We want them to grow as people, as well as students. That’s why all our students have the opportunity to choose what they want to do from a large range of sports, creative activities and academic clubs.
For physical activities we offer Soccer, Rugby, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Basketball, Running, Climbing, Hiking, Cycling, Camping and Yoga.
Our creative clubs include Visual Arts, Dance, Photography, Cooking, Drama Club, Glee Club, Fashion & Design and Gardening.
The academic clubs consist of Model UN, Computer Club, Philosophy, History, French, Electronics, Current Affairs, Debate club and International Affairs.
Next to all the clubs and extracurricular activities, we also offer Hiking and Camping trips, Annual Culture Festivals, an end-of-the-year Summer Ball, weekend trips to London and Birmingham and many other trips and events for our students to take part of and enjoy.
We also have University visits to top UK universities such as Oxford University, Cambridge University and Birmingham University, and have frequent University fairs with a big variety of UK universities, as well as some fairs with universities from the US and other countries in the world. We try to provide our students with as many options for their future as possible and put great focus on helping them find the perfect university for them. If we can’t plan a trip or find a university fair with a student’s chosen university, we make sure to help them get in touch with their university and provide our students with as much information as we can.
Besides what we offer at the school, our students also get the privilege of exploring and making use of Oxford and all it has to offer. Being one of the most well-known university cities, Oxford revolves around its students and has a lot of benefits that our Academy students can make use of during their free time. They have full access to lectures, museums and exhibits at the Oxford University. They can take part in annual events, such as the famous Oxford Literary Festival, and they are welcome to use the modern educational, sporting and leisure facilities at Brookes University, which is located only a few minutes by foot from our school. Oxford also has several great parks for afternoon walks or jogs, lots of cozy cafés that are perfect for a coffee or tea break and great shopping areas. But if the students want even more – London is just an hour away by train! There, they can go sightseeing to places such as Big Ben and Buckingham Palace, get a tour of the famous Harry Potter Studios and see their favorite celebrity made out of wax at Madame Tussauds. They can also go shopping in the luxurious shops on Oxford Street and see an entertaining theatre performance at the world-renowned West End theaters. Whatever our students are interested in, the possibilities are endless for them to explore and experience the beautiful British culture.
